20 years

Syntax were very proud to celebrate our 20th birthday in January 2011. The Company was founded by Alan and Maurice in the height of a recession, how times have changed!

Maritime Street was the company’s first home for one year, before moving for many successful years to Timberbush, Leith. This office/studio had a darkroom for processing film, whilst fondly remembered, was a balmy 40 degrees and smelled of vinegar. Woe betide the person who had to clear a film jam!

After several years there, Syntax moved to their own new premises at 123 Ferry Road. Split over two levels, we were spoilt with 2 bathrooms, a large kitchen and a small backyard that was blessed with sunshine between 1pm and 4pm .Boots are now enjoying the use of our premises as after nine years we moved closer to the sea and the Scottish Government, to Ocean House at 108 Commercial Street. Although moving some of our kit is less than fun (our Herkules weighs in at 1000 Kg), we have settled in nicely and are now enjoying our second very successful business year here.
